Monks pray...in fact, our Holy Father St. Benedict says that we are to prefer nothing to Christ and the Opus Dei is our primary work (translated as Work of God which means our daily communal prayers). Thus, the primary work of the monk is PRAYER. In today’s society, some people have a negative view of prayer thinking it accomplishes nothing. Even if they do believe in prayer, they often say that prayer is only meant to change the praying person and not the actual events being prayed for. Well, our Catholic Church has always thought otherwise.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that “Prayer is the raising of one’s mind and heart to God or the requesting of good things from God. (#2559).” We pray not because God needs our prayers, but because He is pleased with them. In doing so, we change both ourselves, but also seek to unite our will with God’s will for the things being prayed for.
We monks gather to pray five times a day. We would be honored to include your needs in our daily prayers. You may contact our 24 hour prayer line at 1-800-350-5889. You may also use the form below to send your request. We will then pray for all intentions in our services.
