MONKS IN TRANSITION: One of the great gifts of monastic life is the ability to explore varying fields of education or professions over the course of your life. Two of our monks have just arrived at a major moment of transition: 1-Brother Gabriel Jannise has been working diligently on his undergraduate degree at Arkansas Tech University where he completed this semester on the Dean's List with a 4.0 gpa out of a 4.0 possibility (see his attached letter). Most especially, he was just accepted into the Nursing Program at the same University as he works toward his Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Brother has shown an especially fine heart in caring for our senior monks in our Health Center, while also attending his studies AND fulfilling the normal monastic schedule of communal prayer. 2-Brother Raban Heyer (photo attached) has just arrived in Rome where he is preparing to begin his three year journey towards ordination to priesthood. Br. Raban will now study Italian for four months in Assisi in order to prepare himself to start graduate school in Rome at the Pontifical University of Saint Anselm (Pontificio Sant'Anselmo) in the Fall. Say a prayer for both of our brothers as they make these wonderful but challenging educational transitions in their lives (one training for nursing and one training for priesthood). We are very proud of both their accomplishments and wish them the best as they seek to live a life of prayer and work as monks of Subiaco. UIOGD!
