GUADALUPE PROJECT: Last summer, Abbot Elijah assigned Fr. Reginald and Br. José to a Marian project for our campus. The plan was to find a place where we might develop an area to honor "Our Lady of Guadalupe" who is known as the "Patroness to the Americas." For decades our Academy has formed and educated young men from throughout South, Central, and North America. Our Coury House Retreat Center also hosts numerous retreats that are in English and Spanish, where we welcome people from countless nationalities. After much planning, the monastic community is excited to see the first fruits of the Guadalupe project starting to come to fruition. The decision was made to place this newest devotion at the very heart of our campus. What was previously a mound of dirt with roses between the PAC and Alumni, will now become Guadalupe Plaza. This plaza will house a seating area, flowers, and a prominent statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe where we hope to welcome countless visitors. In our Catholic tradition, we give Mary the highest honor for being the model disciple to bear Christ, share Christ, and see Christ in others. Through her intercession, we monastics will continue to welcome Christ in the sick, the poor, the homeless, the hungry, the naked, the imprisoned, and the displaced. Depending on the weather, we hope the project will be complete in about 3-5 weeks. For that we monks chant: UIOGD!
