ACCEPTED FOR SOLEMN PROFESSION: Last night (26 May) the Chapter of Solemnly Professed monks of Subiaco Abbey met and considered the application of Br. Ambrose Fryer to be accepted for solemn profession in our monastic community. John Fryer of Alexandria, LA, following the call of God, entered our abbey in 2017 and undertook a period of Candidacy, followed by his novitiate of a year and a day. On Feb. 2, 2019, he then made his temporary (simple) vows to monastic life for a three year period being given the name "Ambrose." During these three years, Brother Ambrose undertook a number of assignments as he further immersed himself into monastic life of Prayer and Work. In addition to his primary work of daily private and communal prayers, his most recent assignments also included sacristan duties, cantoring, teaching in our Academy, newspaper delivery, and making our deliciously hot "Monk Sauce." After prayerful discernment he then requested solemn profession in our monastic community and last night it was granted! He will make his solemn profession with the vows of obedience, conversatio morum, and stability on December 21, 2021 in our Abbey Church. Pictured below is Brother Ambrose teaching in one of his classes (safe distance, face shields, etc., being a new part of our monastic habit). Please say a prayer for Brother Ambrose as our community is overjoyed that this new Benedictine monk will follow in the long 1,500 year old tradition as he becomes one of the solemnly professed sons of St. Benedict seeking always the Lord! UIOGD!
