The four founding monks of the new priory in Nigeria in 1963 would intially take over the care of Ascension High School near the village of Eleme, outside the city of Port Harcourt. This care would include the construction of new buildings, as well as the founding of a monastery complex to safely house themselves. This new monastery would take the name of Saint Mukasa Priory. The monks would have to abandon the complexes when fleeing from the Biafra Nigerian Civil War in 1968. Today, Ascension High School continues at the same location. The former Benedictine monastery would be taken over by the Nigerian province of the Daughters of Charity. The sisters would greatly expand the complex with the addition of new buildings.
