Throughout the months that Subiaco has been conducting the capital campaign, Continuing the Tradition, many of our donors have told us that they want to help insure the future of Subiaco. So “How is Continuing the Tradition going to help with the future?”
For the easiest explanation, we look to the definition of continue, which means to carry on, maintain or go on with. Then, think of words synonymous with traditions like customs or way of life. Adding the two together, we realize that the future is about continuing the past; at least for the Benedictine monks of Subiaco it is. Their way of life is ministry. From the beginning, the most important mission of the monks was to minister to the people. Prayer, providing guidance in difficult situations and lending a helping hand where needed are normal, everyday events. Ora et Labora--pray and work.
We all know that in ministries there are needs. And that’s the real reason for this campaign. There is a need for Subiaco to have funds to care for the elder monks who served the people for many years. Funds are also necessary to educate the young monks who have taken notice of the vitality of Subiaco and joined the community of monks. They inspire us to carry on the traditions for their future as well. Subiaco Academy, which is another outreach of the monks’ ministry, is attracting young men from around the world who wish to receive an exceptional education based on Benedictine values. Our guest house and retreat center, Coury House, is being discovered by new patrons almost on a daily basis. With this much positive energy, it’s difficult not to imagine the vibrant future of Subiaco.
Inspiration comes each day as we build strong friendships with people of all faiths and backgrounds who are so excited to hear about the great work being done at Subiaco. We are grateful to many who have already supported the campaign through prayer and gifts, and now share in the vision of our future. As we move forward to the goal of $8 million, we hope you will prayerfully consider joining those who have helped in our past, are helping in the present and are becoming part of our future. God’s blessings upon you and your family.
