Age: At least 18 years of age. The upper limit would be around 55 years of age. If you are in the 40-55 age range, then look at our section on older vocations to make sure you would meet our pre-requisites. We are willing to consider older vocations but want to be fair in our expectations about the challenges an older prospect would face.
Biological Sex: Male
Catholic (Practicing): Must be a registered and active parishioner as verified by your Pastor
Catholic (New): Two (2) year (minimum) from the time of his conversion/entrance into Full Communion
Driver’s License: Current and valid license is required
Education: High School Diploma (or equivalent)
Employment Status/History: Proof of some stable work history (6 months). Must be employed at the time of inquiring.
Financial Disclosure Release: Must be signed by the time of application.
Debt: Student loan debt up to $25,000 is permissible. You must have no other debts. Working with the Labouré Society to reduce your student loan debt and applying for grants is expected.
Health: Suitable to participate in the common labors of the community
Immigration Status: Must be a legal citizen of the United States with either citizenship or a green card
Marital Status: Single
Monastic Visits: You should have also visited at least one other religious community and/or one other monastic community to ensure Subiaco is the right fit for you.
Parental Status & Expectations: An applicant must have fulfilled all civil and canonical obligations for dependent children before being allowed to enter the monastery.
Psychological Testing and Release: Required before entry
Timeline for Discernment Process: You should make at least three (3) visits. The entire process before the application process begins is six months to a year.
