On the First Sunday of Advent, Subiaco's monks sang the
Rorate and recited traditional Advent prayers at the evening meal in the Abbey refectory.
Rorate comes from Isaiah 45:8 which gives exquisite poetical expression to the longings of Patriarchs and Prophets, and symbolically of the Church, for the coming of the Messiah.
"Rorate coeli desuper et nubes pluant justum" (Drop down dew, ye heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain the just)."
