A number of Subiaco monks traveled to Altus to join many members of the Post family for the annual blessing of the wine on the feast of St. John the Apostle. According to legend St. John drank a glass of poisoned wine without suffering harm because he had blessed it before he drank. Fr. Hugh blessed the wine in one of the large rooms of the Post Winery.
Monks joined the Abbey and Academy staff in the Performing Arts Center on December 19, 2014, for the annual Christmas party. Delicious food, many door prizes, beautiful decor, karaoke performances, and great camaraderie -- all contributed to a delightful evening.
BIRTHDAY--70 years!: We monks typically celebrate only our profession dates; exceptions, however, are made for special occations. In this case, we celebrate today the 70th birthday of Brother Jude Schmitt, OSB. Brother Jude was born on December 18, 1944, and professed as a monk of our monastery on September 8, 1965. He has been assigned to numerous works in our abbey from Dorm Dean, Academy Faculty, Locksmith, Carpenter, Head of Information Technology, Coordinator for our Summer Cabin at Lake Dardanelle, Socius for Novices, and Junior Master for our Juniorate (the list is longer but the space is limited!). Happy Birthday to a fine monk who is an inspiration and model for us all. Ad multos annos!
