In 1878 when our Subiaco monastic community was founded on the ridges by Fr. Wolfgang and two Brothers, they did not remain alone very long. In only a few short months we would see the arrival of Benedictine sisters that would join us as colleagues in ministry in the years ahead. During the first week of Camp Subiaco, several monks are helping at various camp venues. Br. Cassian provides canoe instruction. Br. Michael is a boat driver at Lake Dardanelle. Candidate Joseph is assisting at the climbing wall and at the zip line. Novice Clifford is helping at Hidden Pool.
Three priests of the Diocese of Little Rock: Rev. Jason Sharbaugh, Rev. Jack Sidler, and Rev. Rick Hobbs became Oblates of Subiaco Abbey during Vespers in the Abbey Church on June 11, 2015. Br. Edward Fischesser, OSB, officiating at the oblation ceremony asked the three: “What do you seek?” The three oblate novices responded: “I seek to offer myself to Almighty God as an Oblate of St. Benedict of Subiaco Abbey in union with its monks.” . . . .
