Fr Reginald Udouj, a graduate of Subiaco abbey class of 1979, had a long and winding road back to the point in which he joined the monastery, in February of 2011. From the missile silos of Kansas to the fabric centers of New York, as well as a thirty-year career selling furniture all over the Eastern portion of the United States. Throughout his journey he went through periods where he questioned the Church, stepped away, and ultimately returned and entered monastic life. He noted that over the course of a lifetime he learned that it is ultimately the people and not the structures that bring us closer to God.
Fr. Reginald's commitment to family has also played a big part in his commitment to serve as our Victim Assistance Coordinator. Simply put, how would you want your mother respected if she had told you that she had been abused? What you would want is a compassionate ear, a kind heart, a strong shoulder, and an Advocate that would help you walk through the process for justice. This is what Jesus would expect of any of us, and most certainly what he would expect from one of his monks.
Subiaco is special... not just the place, but the people and everything that is a part of it. Fr. Reginald has lived it as a student and now as a monk. Feel free to contact him if you are a survivor of sexual abuse by anyone at Subiaco. Allow him to accompany you in any way that you feel best. God bless!
