One of the first tasks for the new monks founding our monastery was the planting of a garden and vineyard. We are one of the few monasteries in America that continues that tradition. We grow grapes to provide for the wine that we need for Holy Communion or meals. We have Br. Joseph Koehler who oversees our vineyard, Fr. Elijah who serves as our Apiarist (beekeeper for pollination), and lots of other monks can also be found in the garden we maintain. Brothers Joseph and Adrian, along with Fathers Reginald, Richard, Jerome, and Mark, all have their hand in the ground. We plant peppers, squash, beans, potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, watermelon, cantaloupe, okra, and peas. Click on the photo album to view just a few pictures of our grounded way of life:
